Faisal M. Kashif

Faisal is a graduate student in Area I of the department of EECS at M.I.T. since September 2004, and he started working with the Wireless Communication and Network Sciences Laboratory (WINS Lab) in January 2005. His interests are in signal processing and communication systems. Faisal’s current work includes devising solution to the nonlinear communication channel that occurs, for example, in a satellite communication system where the source of nonlinearity is the high-power amplifier. He is interested in techniques such as: the optimum decision regions in presence of nonlinearity, factor graphs and iterative equalization.

He obtained his B. Sc. Electronic Engineering degree from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Pakistan and then worked in industry, both in Pakistan and US before joining MIT. During this time Faisal worked with the Algorithm Development Group at Avaz Networks and Elixir Technologies. He has also taught as visiting faculty at College of EME (NUST) Rawalpindi, CASE Islamabad and as research fellow at Iqra University Islamabad.

Thesis Title : Factor graphs and MCMC approaches to iterative equalization of nonlinear dispersive channels
